FROM ALICE BOOTH : THE `SPEAKING VOLUMES: STORIES OF LIVING WITH HIV IN BRIGHTON ` PROJECT NOW HAS A WEBSITE FEATURING STORIES COLLECTED BETWEEN NOVEMBER 2013 AND MARCH 2014 FROM PEOPLE IN SUSSEX LIVING WITH HIV. PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED CREATIVE WORKSHOPS USING ART AND STORYTELLING TO LOOK AT THEIR SELF IMAGE AND JOURNEY WITH HIV.THEY WERE THEN INTERVIEWED ,AND THE EDITED INTERVIEWS CAN BE HEARD BY CLICKING ON BOOK COVERS ON THE WEBSITE .SOME STORIES ARE ACCOMPANIED BY IMAGES DRAWN BY THE PARTICIPANTS AT THE WORKSHOPS ,OTHERS HAVE SOME TEXT CHOSEN BY THE SPEAKER .

THE REPORT COMES FROM THE  JOURNAL OF THE ORAL HISTORY SOCIETY .AUTUMN 2014 VOLUME 42 NO .2  

 

THE HISTORICAL DIVING SOCIETY (HDS) HAS STARTED COLLECTING AND RECORDING ORAL HISTORIES OR RETIRED DIVERS WHO HAVE A STORY TO TELL ABOUT THEIR  TRAINING, EQUIPMENT AND EXPERIENCES .THE RECORDINGS WILL BE DEPOSITED IN THE HDS LIBARY HOUSED IN A SECOND WORLD WAR AIR-RAID PROTECTION (ARP) BUNKER IN GOSPORT TO MAKE THEM AVAILABLE FOR FUTURE RESEARCH .SELECTED RECORDINGS WILL ALSO BE USED IN THE DIVING MUSEUM IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY BATTERY NO 2 STOKES BAY ,IN GOSPORT .

NEWS OF THE EARLY PESTALOZZI CHILDREN PROJECT ,AN INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY ORGANISED BY WILLIAM EIDUKS AND LEN CLARKE ,FORMER RESIDENT CHILDREN OF THE PESTALOZZI CHILDREN`S VILLAGE IN SEDLESCOMBE , EAST SUSSEX ,DURING IT`S EARLIEST YEARS .

 

`THE AIM OF THIS PROJECT IS TO GATHER, PRESERVE AND RELATE THE STORY OF THE CHILDREN OF THE PESTALOZZI CHILDRENS VILLAGE WHO ARRIVED BETWEEN 1959 AND 1965 .IT AIMS TO RECOVER THE  EUROPEAN AND EARLY TIBETAN CHILDRENS STORY, AS FAR AS POSSIBLE , THROUGH ORAL HISTORY RECORDINGS AND OTHER RELATED RESEARCH .WE HOPE THIS TO BE A LEGACY FOR US FORMER CHILDREN OF ” THE  VILLAGE ” AND OUR DESCENDENTS . ALSO, BY GATHERING THIS STORY ,WE WILL NOT ONLY DEMONSTRATE WHAT A REMARKABLE EXPERIENCE IT WAS BUT ALSO CONSTRUCTIVELY PRESENT THIS INFORMATION FOR THE BENEFIT OF OTHER ,RELEVANT RESEARCH . OUR HOPE IS TO RECORD THE PAST TO INFLUENCE THE FUTURE `.

 

THE PESTALOZZI CHILDREN`S VILLAGE WAS ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO BE A SURROGATE HOUSE FOR CHILDREN FROM DEPRIVED BACKGROUNDS. `AT FIRST IT WAS PLANNED PRIMARILY ,FOR EUROPEAN REFUGEE CHILDREN IN GERMAN DISPLACED PERSONS (DP) CAMPS FOLLOWING THE SECOND WORLD WAR ,ALONG WITH A SMALL NUMBER  OF BRITISH CHILDREN. IT WAS FOUNDED BY JOHANN HEINRICH PESTALOZZI ,AN 18TH – 19TH CENTURY SWISS HUMANITARIAN .THE ENGLISH VILLAGE FOLLOWED THE EXAMPLE OF A SIMILAR COMMUNITY IN SWITZERLAND , AND WAS INTENDED TO CARE FOR THE CHILDREN RIGHT THROUGH THEIR EDUCATION `
