NEWS FROM THE JOURNAL OF THE ORAL HISTORY SOCIETY OF GREAT BRITAIN : SPRING 2013

THE  HLF -FUNDED LOS NINOS PROJECT RECORDING THE LIVES OF BASQUE CHILDREN EVACUATED TO BRITAIN IN 1937 DURING THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR HAS NOW CONCLUDED . THE PROJECT, A PARTNERSHIP  BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON AND HAMPSHIRE ARCHIVES AND LOCAL STUDIES , HAS PRODUCED A BOOK BASED ON THE LIFE STORY INTERVIEWS WITH THE NINOS, ENTITLED `HERE LOOK AFTER HIM ` : VOICES OF BASQUE EVACUEE CHILDREN OF THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR .

OTHER PROJECT OUTPUTS INCLUDE A TRAVELLING EXHIBITION , AN EDUCATION PACK , ` AIMED AT ENRICHING CURRICULA ON CONTEMPOARY  MIGRATION AND REFUGEE ISSUES ` AND A WEBSITE WITH IMAGES AND AUDIO EXTRACTS FROM THE INTERVIEWEES .

The  African Women’s Forum gathered in Portsmouth City Museum in February 2012, to learn about and experience oral history and arts. The funding of which had been made available by the museum’s Charles Dickens project. Please see the Workshop page for an outline of the day’s activities and outcomes.
